Changes in the Executive team

While NeIC continues to be hosted by CSC – IT Center for Science in 2026, several changes have taken place at the management level. Following his appointment as Interim Director of NeIC in January 2025, Tomasz Malkiewicz continues in the role as Director of NeIC since June 2025. The decision was made by NeIC’s Strategic Committee.

“The existing digital research infrastructure in the Nordic and Baltic countries enables extensive cooperation with a strong Nordic foundation – such as social structures, trust and a common historical background.

The challenges the NeIC is facing remain the same: sustainability and financial continuity. Nevertheless we’ve recently launched new phases of the 3 NeIC projects (CodeRefinery4, Puhuri3 and NordIQuEst2) and are relatively well off for 2026.

The importance of e-infrastructures is rapidly growing in an increasing number of disciplines, such as health, climate research, and the defence sector. This creates new opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration and resource sharing, which have been the core of NeIC activities since the beginning. Developing relevant Nordic initiatives is now the key for boosting innovation, development and strengthening the impact of e-infrastructure in the research community.”

  • Abdulrahman Azab, Senior Advisor, Project Owner of Puhuri3
  • Michaela Barth, Senior Advisor, Project Owner of NordIQuEst2
  • Vilma Häkkinen, Senior Advisor, Project Owner of CodeRefinery4 (starting in March)
